Thursday Night Kick-Off Celebration

Sit back and listen to a fascinating presentation by author Renée Thompson. Renée writes about wildlife, her love of birds, and the people who inhabit the American West. Her novel, The Plume Hunter is a moving story of conflict, friendship, and love, and follows the life of Fin McFaddin, a late-nineteenth century Oregon outdoorsman who takes to plume hunting. In 1885, more than five million birds were killed in the United States for the millinery industry, prompting the formation of the Audubon Society. Renée’s novel brings to life an era of our country’s natural history seldom explored in fiction.

Wine and beer will be available for purchase at a No Host Bar. Hors d’œuvres will be provided in part by the Malheur Wildlife Associates, Friends of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. See you there!
