Thursday

Wine & Wings

Enjoy a little wine teaser at participating businesses along Broadway.  Other businesses will have a variety of flavors of wings and treats.

Scavenger Hunt

Take a walk along Broadway while visiting the businesses.  Hunt for a series of photos by the Featured Photographer Duncan Neilson.  Find all the treasures for a chance to win prizes.

Tour Guide Meet & Greet

Our wonderful volunteers and partners will be enjoying refreshments at the Chamber Bldg of Broadway.  Here is a chance to pick their brain about the local birding.

Tim Blount Book Signing

Birds of the Pacific Northwest describes and illustrates more than 400 bird species commonly encountered in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and British Columbia. This comprehensive, full-color guide is organized to follow the order in which groups and species are presented by the American Union. Range maps for each species provide valuable information for identification.

BirdFest Wildlife Art Show & Sale

Located in the Burns High School Gymnasium, artists offer high-quality work locally and regionaly. This is a wonderful opportunity to view and purchase original pieces of art, including wildlife paintings, photographs, sculpture, jewelry and much more....

Youth Art Silent Auction

Harney County Students enter their artwork to be judged.  Winners are selected for each class, then a winner from each grade is chosen.  Each of the 1st place winners are printed on canvas for the silent auction.  The canvas prints will be displayed at the art show in the in the Burns High School Gym.   The auction will conclude at the Saturday Night Presentation.

Bidding will open at noon


eTour of Harney County

History and Archeology

Join Bureau of Land Management Archaeologist Scott Thomas for digital presentations about 1) the evidence of Clovis Culture in southeastern Oregon, 2) edible spring plants in the Harney Basin, 3) a World War II B24 crash in the Pueblo Mountains, and 4) the Gap Ranch Civilian Conservation Corps Camp. These interested and detailed discussions give listeners a visual opportunity to experience the history, archaeology and cultural botany of the Harney Basin. The relaxed atmosphere allows for plenty of personal discussion and casual stretch breaks. Come and go as you please. No fee.

School Choir Concert

Enjoy the youth as they enbark on a vocal journey.  Local high school students perform a small concert before the LIVE Bird demonstration.  Come and encourage our youth as they tune into the vibrations on their vocal cords.

Sunriver NatureCenter LIVE Birds

Join naturalists from Central Oregon’s Sunriver Nature Center for a LIVE BIRD presentation featuring a beautiful Great-Horned Owl (and possibly a Screech Owl, too!). Get up close and personal and hear about the birds’ life history and their special adaptations that make them unique. No fee.

Kids' Nature Fun Fair

The Kids’ Nature FUN FAIR is the place to inspire families to welcome wildlife into their backyards. The Fun Fair features several learning activity stations for youth of all ages like decoy painting, making bird feeders or nesting bundles, bird identification, historic or cultural tool making, etc. 

…FUN FAIR activities run from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

…LIVE BIRD classes are from 11 – 11:30 a.m. and 12 – 12:30 p.m. for the first 30 students (parents are not part of the total count).

…BIRDHOUSE BUILDING starts at 12 noon and lasts until supplies run out.

No fee for kids’ activities.

Youth Art LIVE Auction

The Grand Champion of the youth art contest will auction off their piece LIVE.  Proceeds go to furthering the art opportunity.

BIRDING WITHOUT BORDERS: AN EPIC WORLD BIG YEAR

In 2015, bird nerd Noah Strycker of Oregon became the first human to see more than half of the planet’s bird species in a single, year-long, round-the-world birding trip. This humorous and inspiring presentation about Strycker’s epic World Big Year will give you a real appreciation for the birds and birders of the world.

Fair in the Field

Come out and explore what is happening in Harney County with our partners from the Harney Basin Wetlands Initiative and Hareny County Restoration Collaborative. Spend the afternoon doing hands on activities with partners to learn about different aspects of our local ecosystems. Topics that will be examined include: water systems, irrigation systems, mule deer migration, present and past uses of plants, sage grouse habitat, flood meadows and grazing, carp, and waterfowl. We hope to see you there!
